Champagne chairs have developed a following since Design Within Reach began their annual Champagne Chair Contest in 2002. The chairs now being submitted annually are modern marvels, with a great prize for the winner.
On a simpler note, many people create a simple new miniature chair to mark the occasion they drank champagne, and they have also been made to hold place cards at wedding receptions and showers.
What follows are basic instructions for making a standard, cafe style chair from a single champagne or beer cage. This one doesn't require soldering. They are a little small for dolls house scenes, but our test doll George manages to sit on one without falling off. The various bottles do have different size corks and cages, so George might be more comfortable on a chair made from a champagne cage, instead of the basic single beer cage version he is occupying in the photo.
