Use a piece of packaging tape to hold the wired tinsel or trim at the base line for your tree and begin to wrap the trim around the cone in a fairly tight spiral. When you reach the top of the tree, cut the wired trim, fold the end back on itself and tuck it into the top of the tree shape.
Leave the cone on the tree and sew a matching thread through the sections of the spiral in a line on one side of the tree starting from the top. This thread will hold the spiral together.
Sew down the opposite side of the tree. Then sew down two other sides so that the tree is held together by at least four threads which are sewn down to the base from the top. Tie off the threads and remove the cone from the tree.
Make sure that when you sew the tree together you leave space between the spirals of wire and don't pull them out of the cone shape.
