Use a glue spreader to apply a thin layer of glue to all the outer edges of the box top. Line up the shorter box edges and press them to opposite sides of the box top. Apply a thin layer of glue to the corner ends of these box top edges.
Press the longer box top edges in place across the width of the box top. Make sure these pieces cover the edges of the other sides of the box top and press them together along the corner edges making sure the corners of your box top are square. Set the box top lid down and use blocks of wood or a gluing jig to hold the edges of the box square while the glue dries. (See photo above). Leave in the gluing jig until the glue has dried.
