Recently Jill was invited to hold an exhibition at the Somerset Rural Life Museum in Glastonbury where she present her storytelling work in three dimensions, Mrs. Gosoftly Presents. She is currently writing a book about Mrs Gosoftly (a character of her own invention) who, every time she eats a strawberry, is transported in time and place. In the story so far she has popped from an 18th Century tea party to a modern day house in 'Japonica Row'.
Her exhibits for the museum included scenes from Shakespeare. The photo above shows the rascally, scald, beggarly, lousy, pragging knave, Pistol from Shakespeare's Henry V. Each one of Jill's dolls clearly shows their true colors.
Story telling in miniature is what I love. In doing dolls for people's houses I have, I hope, helped them tell the stories they want to have in their house. For myself, I am interested now only in what character, or plot interests me I need to know who I am making before I can do it. It is possible that I am returning to the vignettes we began so long ago.
