Weave a Miniature Fruit Basket

Friday July 4, 2008

This second weaving project for beginners, weaving a miniature fruit basket, follows on from the flower gathering basket. Weaving in miniature isn't as hard as you might think. These projects are made with fine wire and embroidery thread. They use the same techniques as full size weaving, so after a try with a tiny project you may want to branch out into something larger!

A Tool to Apply Tiny Lines of Glue or Paint

Wednesday July 2, 2008

How do you make scale icing on a tiny cake? I know most of us use a pin or a toothpick in a pinch but there are very effective extra caps for glue bottles which allow you to apply tiny beads of glue, paint or other mediums. Available for both cyanoacrylate (crazy glues) and PVA (white) glues these tiny caps let you add raised effect lines to delicate miniatures, or eliminate glue blobs by applying a much smaller amount. The CA precision tips are small enough to bend, to allow glue to flow into very hard to reach seams.

These are well worth trying if you have some precision work to do - making tiny piped stars on a Fourth of July Cake for example!
