The Daisy House are continuing to expand their range of 1:24 scale (half scale) miniature furniture kits. Made with the same care as their 1:12 scale kits, the 1:24 scale writing desk kit has an opening drawer, a writing surface, and two shelves, one with a pigeonhole to hold cards and letters. The kits are surprisingly easy to build and go together quickly. All parts are precut, so you need only sand, finish, and glue the kits together.
If you want to match these kits to existing room settings, it is easy to give them a faux mahogany or a classic painted wood finish. The faux mahogany finishes on commercial dolls house furniture are fairly thick, so mix up a color deep enough to obscure the actual wood grain if you want to match the commercial finishes. If you want your furniture in scale, avoid the heavy finishes used to hide the wood on commercial furniture and create a properly scaled finish to show off the details of your work on kits and other pieces of furniture.
