If you are interested in making miniature furniture, but you don't think of yourself as a woodworker, you may want to look up John Davenport's classic book How to Make Miniature Furniture. Although it has been out of print for several years, this is a worthwhile read for beginning miniature woodworkers.
Unlike many other books on making scale furniture, John Davenport assumes beginners need to be shown standard woodworking techniques and hand tools. Instead of projects that require a beginner to have carving or turning skills, this book concentrates on the basics, and does it very well. If you follow the four basic projects, you should develop a great set of miniature woodworking skills. This is a highly recommended read if you can find a copy in a library or second hand shop.

Thanks to John Davenport and for your efforts of sharing such insight, miniatrure furniture takes dedication, patience and effort so it’s important to include info about the trial and error stage so people don’t get discouraged. Some of the miniature furniture I make are inspired from designs I see at http://www.mydollfurniture.com/ I’ve also purchased some from there as well, but then have made the rest to go with the ones I’ve purchased. My daughter just loves it when I make a new piece and she can help me design it. It’s a wonderful hobby!
