Make a Simple Baby House to House a Roombox Collection

Friday November 28, 2008

Baby houses are usually dolls houses made from a collection of roomboxes in a modified piece of furniture. This Baltic Birch baby house is based on the size of a standard bookcase. If the needs of the child who receives the roombox collection changes, the baby house can be used as a bookcase.

Giving a child a dual purpose piece of furniture allows you to build a collection in stages as their interests change. You can start with a gift of a case (with doors designed like the front of a dolls house) and one or two roomboxes. The roombox collection can grow and change as the child grows, without needing to redecorate a dolls house. The instructions here are for the case, a set of regular dolls house doors and windows will be used next week to make a standard dolls house front to finish off the baby house.

Instructions are also available for making the two types of roomboxes shown in this case.
