A Printable Miniature Putz Village In N Scale

Wednesday November 26, 2008

Vintage collectible Putz houses were inexpensive cardboard candy houses from the dime store, which evolved to become an early form of Christmas village. In keeping with the wonderful eccentric traditions of bright colors and simple buildings styles that characterize the original Japanese made Putz houses in roughly HO scale, the printable miniature Putz Houses can be made for an N scale Christmas village, or used as ornaments or part of a mantle scene.

These houses were usually set on landscaped bases complete with elaborate fences and luffa trees. They could be bright colored, or coated with strands of cellophane coconut. You can view a collection of the original houses online at Papa Ted's Place Museum. These houses make up one of the December Challenges in the Miniatures Forum. I'll be adding more components for more houses in the next few weeks so check back often!

More realistic printable buildings are on the second page of the Christmas Projects list. Working with Printable Miniatures with help you make any of these tiny houses.
