Scale Car News

The latest edition of The Car Room Magazine shows how scale hobbies are blending further together. Die cast car enthusiasts can buy a 1:24 showpiece 1960's lighted garage front from GSB Design Concepts. Or a 1:18 scale antique garage shadow box with room for a special model from Motor City Classics. More companies are coming out with garage tool sets in 1:18 as well. My favorite suggestion for a collector? Try to get someone you know to look at Sunstar Toys 1:12 scale 1962 VW Samba Van with its working doors, suspension, sliding fabric roof , working steering and and wheels that come off with a working jack and lug nuts! They also have a highly detailed 1957 VW Kombi with working doors and removable seats. Certainly something that I'd park in a dolls house driveway, although in some cases it might be worth more than the house.

Collectibles like this you wouldn't want to rough up to add realism. You could make it more realistic by hanging a working scale trouble light over the engine bay and seeking out a 1:12 scale copy of How to Keep Your Volkswagen Alive!
