Great American Dollhouse Museum Grand Opening

Saturday October 11, 2008

Next week on October 16 will be the grand opening of the Great American Dollhouse Museum, a new, 6000 square foot dollhouse and miniatures museum in Danville, Kentucky. The museum is housed in a newly renovated 1939 WPA building which was formerly a national guard armory.

More than just a miniature village, the Great American Dollhouse museum houses five Lawbre houses (the Old Westbury Hall, the Chessington Plaza, The Chateau, Glen Cove Villa and the French Country House) as well as a 20th Century Versailles Hunting lodge recently purchased from the Carolyn Sunstein Collection Auction. Check out their website, and head over for the festivities if you can!

This museum is NOT just for children! I was impressed with the richly diverse American microcosm represented in these gorgeous dollhouses and their tiny occupants. Each neighborhood tells a captivating story, featuring magnificent detail and a huge variety of settings. The gift shop sells dollhouses, but also funky jewelry, artsy

This Place is amazing! Some of the prettiest antique and modern dollhouses I have ever seen. It’s a really nice mix of antique and contemporary furnishings set in a “town” layout” with neighbors that look like your own.. It’s just really, really impressive and I was amazed at the size of the collection and all the periods it encompases.
Go see it for sure!!
