Dolls House World Magazine Review
This week I've reviewed Dolls House World, the original Ashdown miniature magazine, which now has two American sister magazines American Miniaturist and Dollhouse Miniatures. Ashdown has pioneered some innovative use of web technology for i-mags, but unfortunately their site no longer allows you to test the format, making it difficult to decide if you want to rely on internet access to a magazine.
I don't know why magazine websites have become so unfriendly to web users. In the dolls house community you used to be able to find free samples and a few free pages from a back issue to browse. Now it seems most of those have vanished. The 'old style' print magazines seem to be withdrawing behind barriers on their web pages, advertising only a bare minimum of what is coming up. Why can't more magazines try to connect print and online forms? Are magazines going to continue to try to survive by avoiding a web presence? I think they need to do both, especially as specialist magazines vanish from regular bookshops. Are you having trouble finding your favorite mini magazine? What do you think of the magazine websites?
