Little Animals for Your Christmas Tree

Friday September 5, 2008

Isn't he cute! This one inch high portrait of my son's first dog is destined for this year's Christmas tree. He only took an hour to make, and he is much less energetic than his full sized counterpart. My son caught sight of the Little Felted Animals book I was reviewing and said wouldn't it be great if... and out came the felting needles and wool. His 2mm eyes came from a teddy bear supply company. One tip, make a pipe cleaner frame for your felted animals, that way they stay the size you want them and don't shrink or grow as you work. Also the work is easier if you have a photo of the animal in front of you for reference.

I've started a list in the collections section of the forum to find out what Christmas ornaments people are working on. My miniature skills come in handy for decorating my friend's trees. Leave a comment below or in the forum and share what miniatures you put on your trees.

If you want to try felting a miniature animal, the basic instructions for making a raccoon are shown here step by step

Wow! That’s fantastic, and darling! I can’t believe it took you only one hour. That’s amazing. My mom would love this idea. I’ll pass it on to her and let you know if she comes up with anything interesting. Darling, darling…
