Will A Push Mold Help You Make Miniature Dolls?

Monday April 14, 2008

Sometimes labels can lead you astray. This miniature doll push mold by Sculpey does make miniature doll parts, just not in the scale many miniaturists are looking for, and not ready to assemble into a doll. The mold plays into our fears that we can't possibly sculpt faces, or that making detailed faces is made easier by a mold. The mold isn't easy to use with firm types of polymer clay, and although it would seem a good aid to help children make dolls, it is difficult to keep the molded faces from warping as you remove them from the mold. For dolls with character faces, this could be an advantage. If you want a family of dolls for a scene or dolls house, it might be easier to make your own with a good set of sculpting instructions.

If you click on the blog post above, you will get to the article about push molds, which has a direct link to Dick Blick art supplies who sell a range of them.

You can also find them in craft stores and from polymer clay suppliers.
