Miniatures at a Model Railroad Show

Tuesday September 18, 2007

Model railroad shows are a popular family outing and many of them occur in the fall. Even if you aren't interested in railroads you can find lots of other miniatures and information at one of these shows. Here are some of the highlights of one recent show I attended and the types of things I found. I came away without a single train, but with some of the best display ideas I've had in a long time and quite a few magazines with good basic information that goes beyond the model railroad hobby.

Fall is a big season for all types of miniatures shows. Check the Miniatures Calendar for a show near you. For the next month I'll be visiting doll's house shows (including the biggest show in the world in Birmingham!) and collectible toy fairs. It's good to touch base with all the communities that relate to miniatures and scale collections. I'm hoping I'll be able to bring back profiles of some of the most creative people I meet. Stay tuned, next weekend I hope to make it to the Seattle Dollhouse Show.
